Following the recent release of iOS 18.3.1 you might be looking at the update and wondering whether you should install it on your own iPhone.
To help figure that out iAppleBytes has put the update through its paces, comparing it to iOS 18.3 to see how it affects battery life on older devices.
Those with older iPhones are often concerned about the impact of new software updates on their aging batteries, and the iOS 18.3.1 update is no different. Tests carried out by iAppleBytes included an iPhone 13, iPhone 11, and iPhone SE among others while newer models like the iPhone 15 were also part of the test.
In order to make sure the test was as reliable as possible, multiple precautions were taken. As an example, all displays were set to 25% brightness with auto brightness disabled. All of the settings were identical across all of the devices as was the access point that they were connected to.
Geekbench 4 Battery Benchmark: Geekbench 4 evaluates battery life by running processor-intensive applications, providing a consistent workload to the device. The benchmark generates a score based on the device’s performance during battery discharge and the time taken for the battery to deplete.
