Hands-On With $1,000 Gold Plated Apple Watch [Video]

Don’t fancy spending $10,000 on a gold Apple Watch but still fancy yourself a bit of a blingster? No problem, because WatchPlate will apparently take any Apple Watch you send them and then gold plate it either rose gold or yellow gold, You’ll need to hand over $399 for the process to be carried out, but even with the price of even the most expensive non-Edition Apple Watch factored in, you’re still going to come in considerably lower than Apple Watch Edition prices.

YouTuber TechSmartt has released a video of a watch that has gone through the gold plating process offered by WatchPlate and it doesn’t look bad at all. The company providing the service already offers gold plating for things like guitars and motorbike parts so it knows what it is doing, though the Apple Watch is obviously a completely new venture.

While there is little reason to doubt WatchPlate’s ability to do the work, there are concerns over what the gold plating does to your Apple Watch’s warranty. We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that having your device gold plated almost definitely destroys its warranty, but you might want to get some sort of written confirmation from Apple before you go ahead if that’s something that worries you.

If a gold Apple Watch is something that appeals to you but you understandably don’t want to splash the cash required to get an Apple Watch Edition then this seems to be a viable option. Offering free shipping worldwide and with past experience in coating things in gold, WatchPlate seems as good an option as any when it comes to gold plating your Apple Watch.

Just make sure you choose the right color gold when you order.
