As we have expected for a while now, Apple has officially pushed out new public versions of tvOS and watchOS, meaning that version 9.2.2 of tvOS and version 2.2.2 of watchOS are available to download and interact with right now.
There’s nothing quite like a slew of updates for popular Apple platforms to get the blood pumping and the adrenaline flowing. This latest update to the two platforms comes in at a time when the Mac-maker is busy exciting fans with the release of tvOS 10 beta 3, and watchOS 3 beta 3. Here we take a look at what changes the final version of watchOS 2.2.2 and tvOS 9.2.2 bring to the Apple Watch and Apple TV respectively.
After a number of beta versions available to registered developers, Apple has finally released watchOS 2.2.2 to the public for installation and use. Although the Apple Watch hardware is still in its infancy, the underlying firmware that powers the intelligent device is rapidly maturing thanks to regular updates from Apple. As you might expect from a point version of this nature, watchOS 2.2.2 doesn’t immediately look to contain any outward-facing changes or feature additions, but rather sets the scene for the introduction of watchOS 3 by stabilizing the platform and fixing any known bugs.
As always, to download this latest watchOS release, use the Watch app installed on the connected iPhone and check for any available software updates. For more details on how to update your Apple Watch to the latest firmware, you can check out our guide here.
The latest tvOS version for Apple’s fourth-generation Apple TV is probably more exciting than a watchOS update in all honesty. Not only is Apple’s TV platform growing as the company tries to reinvent the living room, but it also has some exciting features planned for the launch of tvOS 10. Of course, that major new version wouldn’t exist without the work that has been built into tvOS 9.x, and certainly the improvements made in this newly available version, tvOS 9.2.2. Being a point update, it’s a relatively minor release that contains a number of bug fixes and stability improvements to provide an enhanced user-experience to all of those with a fourth-generation Apple TV.
tvOS 9.2.2 is available to download and install on the latest Apple TV fourth-gen hardware. Users with that hardware can navigate to Settings > System > MAINTENANCE > Software Updates > Update Software, or follow our detailed guide here: How To Install tvOS OTA Update On Apple TV 4.
