File Explorer For Android Receives Major Update, Now Fully Ready For Ice Cream Sandwich

If you want to get the most from your device – no matter what the brand or platform is – the chances are, you’re going to need a file explorer of some description.

File Explorer by Apposite Designs has made a name for itself as being one of the speediest, cleanest and least buggy of them all, and after a recent update, can now proudly proclaim to be Ice Cream Sandwich-ready.

It’s no-frills, no-fuss, and straight to the point. Completely open-source, this file manager isn’t bogged own by any ads – yet still remains completely free.

The developer has promised Gmail integration in the near future for those running older versions of android, as well as an unzipping function. Meanwhile, the Ice Cream Sandwich iteration will soon boast multi-select, widgets, and other exciting, unspecified bits and pieces.

There are a great many file managers available for Android, with ES and Astro being the two standouts. While File Explorer is quite a way off the built-in file viewer, FTP client, and app management features of ES, it certainly has potential.

There area variety of reasons why it’s always useful to have a decent file explorer on board. Aside from allowing you to install .apk files, you can also use them to remove those lingering not-quite-uninstalled files residing on your SD card. Without a file manager, you’ll find it difficult to move files around, and if you are unsure as to whether a certain file is stored on your device, you can quickly source it without the need to connect to a PC.

As I’ve said, it’s completely free, and you’d be hard pressed to find a cleaner file manager for your Android device. The developer seems buoyant and keen to keep the app moving forward – which itself is a positive sign. Too many decent apps are abandoned by those who create them – leaving users somewhat stranded – but that doesn’t appear as though it will be the case in this instance.
