Cybertruck Will Feature A 50-Amp Outlet Capable Of Charging Another Tesla

The story of Tesla’s Cybertruck has been a long and winding one but it’s never been closer to becoming a real thing that you’ll see people driving down the street.

But we’re still learning things about it including the revelation that it will be able to power other Teslas from one of its power outlets.

This comes after YouTube channel TFLEV shared leaked details about what the Cybertruck will have to offer including two 120-volt outlets and another 50-amp, 240-volt outlet (NEMA 14-50). However, it’s what that outlet means that is most interesting.

As pointed out by NotaTeslaApp, it seems that outlet could make for an interesting use case — charging another Tesla. In fact, the theory is that the Cybertruck could power all kinds of things thanks to its huge power rating.

The inclusion of a 240-volt NEMA 14-50 outlet is particularly intriguing, as this specification implies a high-power output capability. This type of outlet is commonly used for large appliances or for EV charging and can handle up to 12kW of power. Such a feature points to Tesla’s vision of a vehicle that gets you to your destination and serves as a dependable power reserve in emergencies or for off-grid living.

The report also notes that the Ford F-150 Lightning is already capable of behaving as a mobile generator that can run high-power appliances when there are power outages. The Cybertruck looks set to be capable of doing the same thing, assuming it’s charged that is.
