If you're a gaming fan, you'll surely have experienced that feeling of euphoria when a title that you've been waiting for a long time finally hits the shelves. With two major new consoles having been released at around the same time last year, 2014 is shaping up to be the busiest yet as far as new releases are concerned, as developers look to woo those in ownership of the advanced hardware. If you're a PS4 fan and struggle to keep up with what's releasing when, then you'll want to check out the list below, which details every single title arriving for the console this year.
The battle of the new-gen consoles has well and truly begun, and both Microsoft and Sony are braced for yet another slog with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 respectively. From what we've seen so far, it's the Japanese company that has established an early lead in terms of sales, and in even better news for PlayStation 4 fans, one industry insider has suggested that PS1 and PS2 games could be headed to the brand-new entertainment system. Not only that, but select titles will be upscaled to 1080p, which is a very exciting prospect indeed. More details below!
Virtual Reality has been on the burner for many a year, with companies large and small working to try and make such technology a feasible option for those of us that want to discover new worlds - both real and made up - without ever having to leave the comfort of our own homes. No matter the company behind the project though, VR has been met with a luke-warm response by many, partly due to its numerous limitations.
Sony's launch of the PlayStation 4, and the subsequent interest from gamers around the world, has probably exceeded the company’s own expectations. Anyone looking to get in on the PS4 action will likely find themselves in a position of having to wait for stock to become available in the coming weeks, which in itself is testament to how successful the launch has been for Sony. With that said, it seems that all isn't rosy for those who already have the console after finding out that certain games, Killzone Shadow Fall being one, don't quite live up to the full HD 1080p promises that were made by Sony as part of their early marketing campaign.
Not to be upstaged by the big Samsung announcement at this year's MWC, Sony has also come through with its latest and greatest new smartphone – the Sony Xperia Z2. Another waterproof handset, it shares similar design traits to its predecessor, but in terms of both the hardware and software, the Japanese company looks to have been hard at work. I got a chance to spend a few minutes with the device in Barcelona, and as well as a hands-on video below, I'll be letting you know what I think of this most recent addition to the Xperia family, and moreover, whether it can serve as a genuine competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S5.
I’ve expressed my disappointment with the Galaxy S5 already - in all fairness, it’s nothing but a modest upgrade over last year’s Android flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S4. However, it’s still become a coveted piece of technology, and we’re sure that the sales numbers for the new device will be impressive as ever.
We're really not all that far into Mobile World Congress 2014, held in Barcelona, but the announcements are already coming thick and fast. The latest to catch everyone's attention is Sony, with the Japanese technology firm today announcing that it is launching a new flagship smartphone, hot on the heels of its not-long-since-announced Xperia Z1S. The new model? The Xperia Z2. They're nothing if not predictable!
Limited editions of consoles often prove a real money-spinner. Not only does the vendor benefit, but the developer of the games to which the promotional bundles are usually attached often pocket a tidy sum, while the consumer also benefits from something quirky and unique. With the PS4 just about to launch in Japan, Sony has teamed up with Kojima Productions, the crew behind the also-upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, to deliver a special Fox Edition of the fourth PlayStation console, but unfortunately, it's not all that special.
It's always nice to get something for free in life, and while Xbox 360 users had to pony up a subscription free for the privilege of using Xbox LIVE, those on the PS3 enjoyed the PlayStation Network's online multiplayer infrastructure free of charge. But while Sony has since switched things up with the PlayStation 4's paid, PS Plus service, one savvy user has found a little loophole that effectively lets you use it for free, extending the 14-day PS Plus trial by a seemingly infinite length of time.
Time and time again we witness companies putting together ad campaigns that highlight appealing aspects of their products, but how many are actually prepared to stand by those claims? It appears that Sony is on a mission to prove to the New Zealand population that its latest personal MP3 player is indeed waterproof, and have even brought a specialist advertising agency on board to try and get the message across. In conjunction with Auckland based DraftFCB, Sony has concocted the Bottled Walkman campaign that validates the waterproof claims by selling the latest Walkman MP3 player submerged in a bottle of water.
