Nokia’s media event is all set to kick off tomorrow, where the Finnish company is expected to officially announce their next Windows Phone which will be powered by Windows Phone 8. Today, Nokia has released two new teaser videos related to their upcoming event on their official YouTube channel. Check them out after the jump.
It seems that every company in the smartphone and tablet industry is making some kind of announcement or holding an event to present a new product or service to the media at the minute. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Apple is widely speculated to be introducing the next-generation iPhone in the next nine days, but putting cynicism aside, Nokia and Microsoft is the latest companies to make their own exciting announcement in the next few days.
In the current smartphone climate, it seems that everyone is talking about devices like the iPhone and Samsung's extremely popular Galaxy S III, or mostly devices that are built around iOS or Android. In all honesty, it is a bit of a short-sighted position to take, and although companies like Nokia have been cast into the wilderness in recent years, they have always been known for producing premium quality hardware. And now thanks to their partnership with Microsoft, we could hopefully see a re-emergence of the Finnish company.
The next moves of Microsoft and the Windows Phone 8 platform are extremely critical in mobile space. Currently dominated by iOS and Android, no other platform has the potential to compete with the two titans quite like Windows Phone 8, and although some details are still scarce, the evolved mobile ecosystem will cater to more powerful devices than ever before.
Once upon a time in the not too distant past, Nokia were considered to be producers of mobile phones which were at the cutting edge of technology. The Finnish company were at the forefront of the smartphone boom and were once the world’s largest vendors of smartphones, an accolade which which seems a million miles away now. Nokia smartphones were historically shipped with the Symbian operating system, and with the emergence of Apple’s iOS and the Google Android operating systems, it was evident to all that something needed to change within Nokia if they were to even attempt to get back to former glories.
Nokia is going big with the whole Windows Phone thing, which is probably something to do with that infamous deal it struck with Microsoft last year. As part of the Finnish firm's newfound love for all things Windows Phone, Nokia has now announced its first WP7 handset to be made available in the United States.
We might not have to wait much longer to see the fruits of the new relationship between Nokia and Microsoft, if reports are to be believed, with Nokia set to announce two new Windows Phone 7.x handsets at Nokia World.
The world’s most popular fruit company has topped Nokia to take over the title of World’s Top Smartphone Vendor. I am, of course, talking about Apple Inc. whose iPhone, with its 3GS and 4, its only smartphones, has shipped more units than Nokia in the second quarter of 2011.
It's been a bad few months for all involved with Nokia. A new head-honcho in Stephen Elop, a deal with Microsoft to use Windows Phone 7 that threatened to split the company in two and a lack of any kind of roadmap for the future have all caused many pundits to write off the once proud Finish mobile phone manufacturer. But things might, just might be on the up for Nokia.
Nokia, which had disputes with Apple over patents for years, agreed to drop the charges in exchange for a one-time licensing fee, along with a royalty fee for every iPhone sold. Yes, Apple will now be paying Nokia money for every iPhone it sells.
