With Apple seeding new builds of iOS 8.1 to developers for testing it was only a matter of time before a clever developer managed to poke around long enough to find some more information about about the big change we're expecting to come as part of the release.
The fact that Apple has allowed users to install and use third-party keyboards is still sinking in for many of us, but when iOS 8 did finally land it's probably safe to say that those wanting a new keyboard set off to find Swype keyboard for iOS 8 on the App Store.
Earlier on, we told of how Apple's work on patching the 'date trick' loophole will soon prevent fans of SNES and GBA emulators from installing them on iOS devices without a jailbreak, and while it has just been revealed that Popcorn Time for iOS can also be loaded on iPhone and iPad using a similar method, the torrent streamer will also be a jailbreak-only enterprise once iOS 8.1 arrives.
iOS 8.1 Beta 2 is now available for download. This new beta comes in only a week after Apple released first beta for supported iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
Prior to the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, it was reckoned that the smaller, 4.7-inch model would greatly outsell its more sizeable counterpart. After all, the phablet market was / is still considered niche in spite of its growing popularity, and given how long iPhone fans had been content with a 4-inch-or-smaller display, the 5.5-inch canvas of the iPhone 6 Plus -- and the sheer size of the device's footprint as a result -- would surely prompt the users towards the standard iPhone 6. But following on from a report last week documenting reservation figures in China, which suggested that the 6 Plus was not just more popular than expected, but actually favored over the smaller variant, it has now emerged that Apple may be switching its production strategy to cope with the unforeseen interest.
Apple's decision to allow third-party keyboards into iOS with its latest release took many by surprise, mainly because after all these years it was generally accepted that Apple simply didn't want to give third parties access to everything its users typed, but that also meant that users of iPhones and iPads were going to miss out on some of the excellent keyboards and keyboard features that have been available to users of other platform devices for years.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have both brought an abundance of new features to the table. Among them, Apple has squeezed in a new M8 motion coprocessor, an upgrade on last year's M7, which adds a barometer alongside other notable tweaks. Now, a free new app lets you use the barometer to check atmospheric pressure, and although the app is pretty bare-bones at its current duration, it is the only one that currently doesn't cost any money.
Google is constantly improving its famed Gmail client, and with the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus having recently been rolled out by Apple, the Gmail for iOS app has been given its customary update for optimization with the new display sizes. In true geek style, the release is numbered 3.1415926, or Pi, and we've got the rest of the details as well as the download link right here.
It is clearly evident from the early sales figures that Apple's latest iPhone has resonated with the smartphone community. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch jumbo-sized iPhone 6 Plus are flying off bricks and mortar and digital shelves in every country they are available in, with the Cupertino company adding more territories weekly. Tim Cook's company has also acted quickly to put recent India based speculation to rest by issuing a press release to announce that both iPhone 6 models will be available in the South Asian country on October 17, with pre-orders becoming available even earlier.
Apple's decision to launch a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone may have ruffled a few feathers and divided opinion right down the middle, but there's one thing that's for sure; the jumbo-sized iPhone 6 Plus will definitely appeal to those who love to create, edit and consume media on the move. The 5.5-inch Retina HD display of the iPhone 6 Plus makes watching high-definition videos, swiping through photograph galleries and just generally interacting with any visual content an absolute pleasure. For those individuals who love creating and sharing moving masterpieces, Adobe has just launched its Premiere Clip application for iPhone & iPad, designed and developed to make editing videos a much simpler and more enjoyable task.
