Another week has passed and Apple has yet again updated the App Store with a number of newly featured apps as well as its weekly free 'App of the Week' choice. If you're new to the App Store, then this represents your chance to download and keep an app of Apple's choosing that usually carries a premium price-tag. This week it's the turn of 'Card Wars - An Adventure Time Card Game' to be offered up for free (normally $3.99) which is inspired by a particular episode of Cartoon Network's popular children's cartoon.
If you are anything like us then you have probably wished that you could put an app, or even an iOS feature behind some sort of additional security. Whether you want to stop your kids from getting into the App Store or have some important information in the Notes app that you want to hide from prying eyes, being able to password or passcode protect apps is a long-requested iOS feature. Apple hasn't added it, but Asphaleia does.
It's difficult to believe that Star Wars, one of the most iconic franchises ever to exist, has been in our lives since 1977, spanning a total of six movies so far, with more to come, and it hasn't had an official native mobile app presence - until now. After acquiring Lucasfilm for approximately $4.05 billion back in 2012, Disney has now launched an official mobile app for iPhone and Android that acts as a mobile centric gateway to everything Star Wars.
Microsoft has continued the development of its iOS and Android Xbox Music apps with yet another new version being pushed out to both the App Store and Google Play Store for respective device owners. The app and underlying service, which will shortly undergo a full rebrand to become Groove, is following in the footsteps of the Windows desktop version that benefitted from the addition of the same new features back in March.
In this day and age it seems many of us live our lives on Facebook, not only using it as our digital rolodex but also keeping a running tally of who our friends are and what they are up to. That's all well and good, but while Facebook tells you when someone wants to be your friend it is much more coy when someone goes the other way, and wants to unfriend you.
Sometimes you would be surprised what people will do when they have a jailbroken iPhone. Some changes to iOS, via some super cool tweaks it has to be said, make the experience better for a variety of reasons whether they be functional or aesthetic. WatchNotifications, a jailbreak tweak costing a dollar and available to download from the Cydia store, falls firmly in the latter category.
If you find yourself wondering what might be happening in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos if the fifth season Game of Thrones hadn't come to an end, then maybe it's time to look for alternate entertainment elsewhere. Sure, you could flick through endless hours of boxsets looking for something as epic as GoT. Or, alternatively, you could head on directly over to the iOS App Store and download 'Game of Quotes,' an epic third-party keyboard app for iPhone and iPad that lets you text your friends quotes from HBO's iconic series.
With today being the famous 4th of July and Will Smith fighting aliens and such, we thought it might be a good time to check out some premium iOS apps and games that would have cost you a pretty penny normally, but are inexplicably currently available for the bargaintastic price of absolutely nothing. You do like bargains, don't you?
It's that time again, where both Apple and Google choose an app to be made free for 7 days, with the app then returning to its previous price once the offer is over. Over the months and years we have seen some truly excellent apps represented as part of Apple's free App of the Week, with Google putting its food into the water just recently. Both Google and Apple have announced the apps that they chose for their respective app store offers this week, with both likely to prove popular.
Everyone loves a freebie. It doesn't matter if you're rolling in cash and can afford to splash out on luxuries, or if you're at the opposite end of the scale and need to stringently monitor outgoings in order to get through the month. The idea of getting something for free is a song that we can all sing and dance along to. It's an especially nice feeling when the app that's being offered for free once had a $4.99 price tag attached to it, which is exactly the case right now as Apple is dishing up the Green Kitchen cooking app as a free download via its own Apple Store app.
