I don’t know if this is first for an Apple event but well, Apple has just announced that they are going to live stream September 1st “Special Media Event” which will be mainly geared towards their new 2010 iPod lineup. You will have to have either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad to watch the streaming. If you are a Windows user, you will be out of luck which kinda sucks in my opinion.

Back at the special iPhone 4 conference in July of this year, Steve Jobs announced free cases for every iPhone 4 purchased through September 30. This deadline of September 30th got many to speculate that Apple probably will come out with a new iPhone 4 in fall of this year with a proper hardware fix for the now infamous “antennagate” issue which has been plaguing many users since its launch in June.
Ok guys let me clear this upfront. I haven't tested this method yet, but by the looks of it, there is no reason why it shouldn’t work. If you have just got a new iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) which is on iOS 4.0.2, you can now downgrade to iOS 4.0.1 without having your SHSH blobs saved. This will of course allow you to jailbreak and unlock your new iPhone with JailbreakMe, and patch it with PDF Patch so that you are safe from PDF vulnerability in iOS 4.0.1.
So you have an iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS (New Bootrom), running iOS 4.0.1, with SHSH blobs saved on Cydia, and you want to restore your iPhone again to iOS 4.0.1. Now that Apple has stopped signing iOS 4.0.1, you wont be able to restore your iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0.1 by simply pointing iTunes to iOS 4.0.1 ipsw file. Because if you do so, iTunes will throw an error: “This iPhone [your name] iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.
The developers behind BiteSMS app have come up with a new app in Cydia called SwitcherPlus which enables you to switch between your multitaskable apps right from your iPhone or iPod touch’s lockscreen. This is the same native task switcher which comes with iOS 4.x for iPhone 4, 3GS and the 3rd-gen iPod touch. All what SwitcherPlus does is to enable the functionality in lockscreen so that you can use it without having to unlock your phone.
The iPhone Dev-Team has just posted an update on their official blog, giving warning to all those with newer devices like iPhone 4, iPad (on iOS 3.2.2), iPhone 3GS (New bootrom) and iPod touch 3G / 2G (MC-Model) to not update to iOS 4.0.2 as they wont be wasting another exploit for this minor firmware update. Instead, the focus will now be on finding a new exploit which could be used on the next major firmware update i.e. iOS 4.1. I’ll say that is a good move on their part given that final version of iOS 4.1 could be out as early as next week.
Mary Jo Foley of All About Microsoft has managed to grab a screenshot of Internet Explorer 9 which was accidently posted up on a Russian site. Even though the screenshot and info has now been pulled from that Russian site, but Mary Jo has got all the details for us, courtesy of Bing Translator.
Apple has just sent out invites for the “Special Event” which is going to be held on September 1st 2010 at 10AM Pacific Time / 1PM Eastern Time in San Francisco. Expect Apple to announce new iPod touch 4 with FaceTime, iTunes in Cloud, the new Apple TV (dubbed iTV), iOS 4.1 for iPhones and iPod touches and iOS 4 for iPad. Hopefully we will also have more updates related to the availability of White iPhone 4 which has been delayed twice for “until later this year”.
Facebook has just released version 3.2.2 of Facebook for iPhone which fixes the dreaded login issue which has been plaguing users ever since Facebook rolled out the major version 3.2.x for “Places” last week. This is third update for this app released in a span of only four days. Both the Facebook for iPhone 3.2 and 3.2.1 were released on 19th of this month.
One of the things which iPhones and iPod touches are still missing over Android devices is the animated or live wallpapers option which were first introduced with Android 2.1 on Nexus One back in January of this year. But thanks to this new jailbreak app called vWallpaper, you can now have animated wallpapers on any iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.x / iOS 3.x. This in my opinion is the single best reason (behind unlock of course) to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch now if you haven't already. Some of these HD animated wallpapers just shine like anything on the gorgeous Retina Display of iPhone 4. Don’t believe us? Check out the video after the break.
