Apple’s M5 Chip Production Kicks Off: What To Expect

Apple has reportedly started mass production of its next-generation M5 chip, according to a new report from ET News. The chip could be featured in new Apple devices as early as this year.

The final step in making chips, called packaging, began last month. This process protects the chip and connects it to other components.

Apple works with TSMC for the chip fabrication and partners with companies like ASE Group, Amkor, and JCET for the packaging phase.

The first batch being produced is for the base M5 model. The more powerful versions, including the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra, will follow later as companies upgrade their production facilities.

The M5 chips are expected to bring improvements through advanced 3-nanometer technology, enhancing speed and efficiency. Although Apple is not using TSMC’s latest 2nm process due to cost, the M5 series still promises major advancements over the current M4 chips, thanks to a new 3D stacking design that manages heat better and reduces power loss.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the first device to feature the M5 chip will likely be a new iPad Pro, expected in the second half of next year. MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and even the Vision Pro headset are all anticipated to follow between late 2025 and early 2026.
