Apple’s iOS 9.3 Page Shows Night Shift Toggle In Control Center

Apple’s initial pre-release seed of iOS 9.3 has managed to inject some of the excitement back into the iOS-using community. Along with a number of small but notable improvements, iOS 9.3 also introduced the excellent Night Shift feature that automatically adjusts the color temperature of the iPhone or iPad display at night to provide a better, more relaxed visual experience. The introduction of the feature has definitely been greeted with positivity, but it seems that there could be a little more to come for Night Shift; an integration into the iOS Control Center.

One concern that users seem to have, is the fact that right now Night Shift can only be accessed through the native Settings app on the phone, therefore making it a bit of a cumbersome experience.

It seems that Apple’s Canadian iOS 9.3 preview page has let the cat out of the bag on the company’s plans to eventually integrated Night Shift as a standalone toggle within the Control Center. One of the image that has been designed to show off iOS 9.3, shows an iPhone running Apple’s Health app as well as an iPad that shows the iOS Home screen with Control Center invoked. A new toggle on that Control Center shows the title “Night Shift”, with options to “Turn On For Now”, and “Turn On Until Tomorrow”. This seems to be designed to give users a quick and efficient mechanism to access Night Shift and turn it on or off without having to drill down into the native Settings app.

Night Shift is currently present and functional within iOS 9.3 beta 1 and iOS 9.3 beta 1.1 that is currently being tested by registered developers and those on Apple’s public testing programs. The feature itself has largely been well received apart from a little backlash due to the fact that Apple has essentially tried to kill off the f.lux app that initially made a name for itself on jailbroken devices via the Cydia store.

What’s interesting is that the visual displaying the Night Shift toggle only actually shows up on the Canadian preview page for iOS 9.3, and is missing on the image shown on the United States page. It’ll be very interesting to see what Apple has in plans for the future of Night Shift and how it’s accessed by users. Hopefully the second and third betas of iOS 9.3 should provide us with some answers.
