Apple To Upgrade MacBook Air, 13-Inch MacBook Pro Processors In Fall 2019

There’s an awful lot of talk about the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro right now, but we could be in for processor bumps for two of Apple’s current lineup according to a new report by Forbes.

Citing IHS Markit Analyst Jeff Lin’s latest note, Forbes says that we could see updates to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Retina MacBook Air that will come in time for September’s macOS refresh. That timescale is also the one the same analyst has for the launch of the aforementioned and as-yet unconfirmed 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple is also expected to update the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and Retina MacBook Air with the new MacOS Catalina and new processors in September, according to Lin.

It’s believed that the 13-inch MacBook Pro Lin mentions is the Touch Bar-less version. The reasoning is simple – Apple recently refreshed the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar this past May, so another update in September would make little sense.

By contrast, the last MacBook Air update came in October 2018 making a September 2019 refresh likely. Last year’s update was a big one, too, with support for a Retina display, Touch ID, and Thunderbolt 3 arriving after years of no updates whatsoever.

If Apple does refresh the two machines in September, it is likely to be a very busy month. New iPhones will very likely arrive in September, with the 16-inch MacBook Pro also said to be in line for a release in the same month.
