Apple To Unveil New AirPods And iPad On March 25, Says New Report

According to sources who have spoken directly to DigiTimes, Apple will use its upcoming March 25 event to unveil a brand new iPad model as well as highly-anticipated second-generation Apple AirPods.

We have been talking about Apple’s AirPods for quite a while now and regularly speculating on when the company will thrust the accessory into the ether and replace it with a second-generation release. So far, Apple has stopped itself from deprecating the existing AirPods hardware in favor of a revamped version of the popular earbuds but it looks as though that run could come to an end. The sources are suggesting that Unitech PCB has been pulled in to supply rigid-flex boards for the second-generation AirPods and that the release will add a boost to Apple’s revenue stream as consumers upgrade from the original AirPods hardware.

If accurate, we can expect AirPods 2 to come with super-fast wireless charging via a brand new wireless Charging Case, a slightly redesigned surface coating to match the aesthetic of Apple Pencil, and a charging case that has a slight visual difference. The same sources are also stipulating that Flexium Interconnect and Zhen Ding Technology are internally preparing for mass production of new iPad hardware ahead of the announcement. If a new iPad is announced, those aforementioned firms could use the ramp up in production to offset the slowdown in shipments for iPhone during 2019.

It seems that AirPods 2 and a new iPad will be the stars of Apple’s March 25 event later this month but that won’t be all that is announced. Tim Cook’s company is also expected to announce an Apple News subscription initiative designed to appeal to those who are happy to bypass a pay-wall for their curated daily news fix.

The company will also lift the covers off of its highly-anticipated streaming video service, which, like Apple News, is also set to come with a monthly subscription model and will likely immediately go head-to-head with established streaming services, such as Netflix.

We are most definitely looking forward to AirPods 2 being unveiled, to see what Apple has in store for us with that hardware, and if the company’s streaming video platform comes with any USP to differentiate it from the likes of Netflix.
