Apple Seeds The First iOS 16.6 And iPadOS 16.6 Release Candidates

Apple has just released the iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 release candidate updates, likely to be the last betas before those updates are released to the public. And you can download them right now.

These release candidates, or RC updates, are now available for download by those who are on the developer beta program and are signed into the relevant account on their iPhone.

The updates come a week after Apple released the iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 beta 5 update.

The iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 updates aren’t thought to be big ones, however. There are bug fixes and security improvements that Apple’s release notes don’t explain, but there are no big new features to look forward to testing out.

If no big issues are discovered we can likely expect Apple to release the iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 updates to be released to the public within a week or so. However, future release candidates can of course be released if Apple finds issues that need to be addressed.

This is likely to be one of the last iOS 16.x updates before the iOS 17 update arrives later this year, likely in September. That update is a much bigger one and will arrive alongside iPadOS 17. Both updates were announced during the WWDC event on June 5 and are currently available as part of their own developer and public beta programs.
