Owners of iPhones, iPads, and Macs will notice a huge change to the way their devices work later this year with iOS 19, according to a new report. Big software updates will come to all three platforms around September.
That’s according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, who says that the revamp will “fundamentally change the look of the operating systems and make Apple’s various software platforms more consistent, according to people familiar with the effort.”
Gurman went on to add that the change “includes updating the style of icons, menus, apps, windows and system buttons.”
It’s believed that the design of the new software updates will be influenced by the Apple Vision Pro and visionOS, with the aim being to simplify the way users work with and control their devices.
Gurman also believes that the new updates will make the experience of using Apple devices more familiar and consistent across the different platforms, something that hasn’t been achieved to date. “Right now, the applications, icons and window styles vary across macOS, iOS and visionOS,” Gurman explains. “That can make it jarring to hop from one device to another.”
Apple is expected to announce iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and the new macOS 16 software at its WWDC event that will likely take place in June. That’s when we can expect to see these new software updates in for the first time.
But while betas will be released to developers at that time, the public will have to wait until September for an official global release.
