Apple is working on plans to allow AI agents into the App Store, according to a new report.
The system would ensure that the agents stick to the App Store’s privacy and security requirements, but it’s unclear how Apple intends to make this work as yet.

A new report by The Information claims that Apple has already started to contact app developers to allow them to integrate capabilities into apps, such as booking flights and more, using Apple Intelligence.
However, developers are wary of Apple’s plans and are concerned that any use of agents to carry out tasks in-app could see Apple try to collect a commission on money made as a result of their actions.
For its part, Apple is keen to allow apps with AI agents into the App Store but only if it can ensure that users are protected. There have been horror stories of AI agents carrying out tasks that they weren’t intended to do, such as bulk deleting emails or entire work repositories. Apple will seek to ensure that agents can’t access data they shouldn’t or perform unwanted tasks.

Apple’s relationship with AI continues to be a troubled one. Apple’s Apple Intelligence features continue to disappoint, and it recently signed a deal with Google to use its Gemini AI to power an upgraded version of Siri. That new Siri is expected to be shown off at the WWDC event that will take place next month.
