Apple Kicks Off A New iPhone Night Mode Photo Competition

Apple has started a new iPhone photo competition, this time focusing on photos taken using the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. In particular, Apple is looking for photos that were taken in Night Mode.

The new competition begins January 8 and runs through January 29, with Apple saying a panel of judges will be used to select the five winning photos on March 4. Once those photos have been selected, they’ll be used on anything from Apple’s advertising campaigns to third-party photo exhibitions.

In order to allow people to get the most out of their photos for the competition, Apple also offered some “tips for using Night Mode,” including:

  • Night mode automatically comes on in low-light environments. If the yellow Night mode icon is showing, you’re shooting with Night mode.
  • Night mode determines capture time based on the scene, and displays this time in the Night mode icon. You can tap on the Night mode icon and adjust the slider to Max to extend the capture time.
  • Try propping up your iPhone or using a tripod for a longer capture time at the darkest time of night.

Those who want to submit their work can do so via Twitter or Instagram by tagging their work with the #ShotoniPhone and #NightmodeChallenge tags. Apple also notes that photos “can be straight from the camera, edited through Apple’s editing tools in the Photos app or with third-party software.”

Apple launched the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max along with Night Mode in September 2019 and we’ve already seen some very impressive photos taken since then. We can’t wait to see what comes out of this competition.
