Apple Could Skip iPhone 19 And Go Straight To iPhone 20

Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup has only been on sale for a a few weeks, but attention is already turning to next year’s iPhone 18. And beyond that, it’s likely that another model will follow that. Except, a new report claims that it won’t be called the iPhone 19 as might be expected.

Instead, Omdia Chief Researcher Heo Moo-yeol believes that Apple will skip the iPhone 19 name entirely. Instead, it will choose to call the device the iPhone 20 as had been previously rumored.

The Omdia chief was speaking at a conference in Seoul, with ETNews reporting that Apple has the iPhone 20 in its sights.

If all of the rumors come true, this means that Apple will launch the iPhone 18e and iPhone 18 in the spring of 2027. Then, the spring will bring with it a new iPhone 20 Pro, iPhone 20 Pro Max, and refreshed iPhone Air. The second-generation foldable iPhone is also likely to be announced alongside the other premium devices.

The move would see Apple move to a new release schedule that will see its entry-level iPhones launch in the first half of the year, followed by its range-topping models in September.

It’s been suggested that Apple intends to use the iPhone 20 name as a way to celebrate 20 years of the iPhone. It did something similar with the iPhone X and the 10th anniversary in 2007, so it has form for this kind of naming jump.
