Apple Releases watchOS 27.0.1 To Address Random Apple Watch Restarts

If your new Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4 just randomly restarts itself, don’t panic; it’s not your device. Apple has released a new watchOS 27.0.1 update that addresses the issue.

Apple released the new smartwatches less than a week ago, and some early adopters have been reporting issues where the watch automatically restarts itself with seemingly no reason.

It’s unclear what caused the issue or why it only affects the new models, but it’s notable that Apple has been able to identify the problem and then release a fix so quickly.

Apple’s own release notes for the new update don’t get into specifics, simply saying that the software fixes bugs, including one that could cause the restarting Apple Watch behavior that some people have experienced.

The new watchOS 27.0.1 update can be downloaded via the Settings app on the affected Apple Watch or via the Watch app on a connected iPhone. Keep in mind that the Apple Watch must be connected to a charger and have at least 50% battery remaining before the update will be installed.

The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 went on sale on September 18 alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The upcoming iPhone Du won’t be available until the end of October, though.
