The stock Weather app has been a staple part of iOS from the beginning, and since iOS 5, we have seen the company introduce a GPS based weather widget that lives within Notification Center and provides constantly updated weather information based on the location of the device at any given time. Of course, not everyone likes the stock implementation, and when looking for weather widgets that step away from the iOS norm then the MIUI Weather iWidgets could be the right place to go hunting.
First and foremost, the MIUI standard and small weather widgets are effectively plugins for the iWidgets package that works in an extremely similar fashion to Dashboard X, in which third-party developers can create widgets that can be activated and placed on any free area of the device’s home screen using iWidgets. The two MIUI weather widgets have their visual inspiration taken directly from the extremely popular MIUI Android ROM, which makes sense, considering Android has a plethora of extremely attractive and functional weather widget offerings.
The weather based widgets in question come as two different packages, with one being the full-sized version, and the other being the slightly scaled down version for those screens that don’t have as much room to display the weather. The widgets can be activated by tapping and holding on any free area of the home screen and selecting the relevant package from the presented list. Additional options are then presented to the user such as the display language, whether to use Celsius or Fahrenheit scales, whether to pull the weather information from GPS and whether or not user interaction is enabled or disabled.
One of the great advantages of both widgets is that they can be applied onto any home screen on the jailbroken device and can be moved at will. Remember that the iWidgets package must be installed before the widgets can be used.
Both the MIUI small and standard sized weather widgets are available to download free of charge from the BigBoss repository. Both packages require the iWidget extension to be installed before they can be downloaded and activated.
