Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Breaks Sales Records, All Set To Become Highest Selling Game Of All Time

Just a year after Call of Duty: Black Ops shattered video game sales records by selling over 7 million copies in its first 24 hours, its successor – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – has obliterated the franchise’s own sales record by reportedly selling 9.3 million copies in the first 24 hours. The game is now set to become the highest selling game of all time.

The news comes from VGChartz – a website dedicated to making video game sales data publicly available – in the form of a post published on their blog where they discuss the Modern Warfare 3’ sales numbers and how it now holds, besides others, the title of the biggest launch ever in the gaming industry.

From VGChartz:

‘When will this franchise peak?’ Many asked this after last year’s Black Ops defied all odds and outsold a Modern Warfare Call of Duty game (the very reason the series is so big today); a brand within itself. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Call of Duty has yet again broken industry records, but it’s by how much that makes it staggering.

According to the report, over 1.5 million gamers lined up outside stores around midnight to get their hands on the hotly anticipated title, with a reported first day sales of 9.3 million. That’s over 2 million more copies than what Modern Warfare 3’s predecessor – Black Ops – could manage last year. Modern Warfare 3’s sales are up 33% from Black Ops and 55% from Modern Warfare 2.

Sales of the game are expected to remain strong through the holiday season, with projected sales between 12 to 13.5 million. One analyst predicts that Modern Warfare 3 will make over $1.1 billion within its first six weeks. Unbelievable!
