tvOS 9.2.1 For Apple TV 4, watchOS 2.2.1 For Apple Watch, Available To Download Now

Apple has today given fourth-generation Apple TV and Apple Watch owners something to sink their teeth into. As part of improving the overall experience on the two products, Apple has today released tvOS 9.2.1 and watchOS 2.2.1 to the general public for immediate consumption. Both releases can be instantly classified as relatively minor updates, bringing with them a slew of internal fixes and improvements that should hopefully improve the overall user-experience of the Apple Watch and Apple TV.

Apple TV was last updated to tvOS 9.2 almost two months ago, with watchOS 2.2 for the Apple Watch following suit on that same day as well, so it’s quite fitting that both consumer devices receive yet another update hand-in-hand.

Apple’s fourth-generation Apple TV has managed to find itself in a position of dominance in the set-top box streaming market. To that end, Apple is continuously looking to improve the overall experience by releasing semi-regular software updates for the platform.

tvOS 9.2.1 is a continuation of that improvement plan, and as you might expect from such a minor point update, it doesn’t actually introduce any notable forward-facing changes that Apple TV owners can interact and get to grips with. Instead, Apple has taken the opportunity to offer a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements and security improvements. Apple TV owners can grab the latest firmware update immediately by downloading and installing the tvOS 9.2.1 update through the device’s software update functionality. To do this, navigate to Settings > System > MAINTENANCE > Software Updates > Update Software, or follow our detailed guide here: How To Install tvOS OTA Update On Apple TV 4.

Apple managed to bring a number of outward-facing Apple Watch changes with the introduction of watchOS 2.2 earlier this year, but the same can’t be said this time around. watchOS 2.2.1 is a relatively minor point update, weighing in at around the 27MB download mark. Rather than introducing new features and functionality, Apple has once again chosen to improve the overall stability of the platform and concentrated on fixing under-the-hood bugs that have been identified in the time that has followed since the release of watchOS 2.2.

The latest watchOS 2.2.1 is available immediately as an over-the-air download via the accompanying Apple Watch iPhone app through the Software Update mechanism, you can follow the full detailed instructions on how to update your Apple Watch here.

Of course, if any new features do become public knowledge, or if there’s anything interesting discovered in the codebase, we will of course update with that information instantly.
