Tesla has begun taking orders for a new Long Range RWD version of the Model Y in the United States.
The new model costs $45,000 and takes its place as the entry-level crossover EV. This model joined the existing Model Y Long-Range AWD Launch Edition version that originally launched at $60,000 but can now be bought for $49,000 in a different configuration.
Electrek reports that the new model has 357 miles of range which is 30 miles more than the AWD offering. And while it is still incredibly fast, thanks to a 0-60 mph time of just 5.4 seconds, it’s considerably slower than the 4.6 seconds it takes the AWD version. That’s the price you pay for having a single motor, of course.
While orders for the new model are now open, delivery won’t happen just yet. Currently, orders are listed as being ready for delivery in between three and five weeks, although that could well change as orders arrive and new ones take longer to be delivered.
This new addition to the lineup means that potential Model Y buyers now have a choice to make when planning their purchase.
With a relatively small price difference between the RWD and AWD versions, some may still choose to go with the more capable, faster version.
Notably, Electrek notes that “Tesla currently only offers the subsidized 1.99% financing rate on the Model Y Long Range AWD.”
