It has only taken the best part of 18 months, but VideoLAN has finally come through on its promise to tailor its famed VLC media player for users of Microsoft Windows 8 / 8.1. Finely tuned for seamless integration with the tiled interface, VLC for Windows 8 is now available to download, although unfortunately for Windows RT users, the RT edition is not quite ready.

The guys over at VideoLAN, developers of the iconic VLC media player, have once again teased the Windows 8 / RT version of the app, providing eager video enthusiasts with a glimpse of the Snap View. VLC is a household name as far as most desktop and Android users are concerned, but while the famed app did once grace a fledgling iOS App Store in its early days, it was pulled without much warning and resigned to being jailbreak-only. Thankfully, the iconic media player returned to its rightful home recently in the form of VLC v2 for iOS, and having been rejuvenated by a bunch of great improvements, the VideoLAN team is back with more enhancing features for those on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

VideoLAN’s VLC is a media player used by millions worldwide on a daily basis. Famed for its robust functionality along with its ability to handle anything thrown at it with relative aplomb, VLC spans most of the major platforms, including Windows, OS X, and Android.
