It may be nearly two years old, but there's life in the old iPhone 3GS yet and, as reported by AppleInsider, the veteran handset is still outselling some newer Android handsets.
After releasing PwnageTool bundles for iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G / 3G, iPhone developer and hacker iH8sn0w has now released bundle for iPhone 3GS (new and old bootrom) which can jailbreak this device on the newly released iOS 4.3 firmware.
AT&T has just announced a huge price drop for iPhone 3GS. The predecessor to iPhone 4 which was selling for $99 will now cost only $49, starting from this Friday, January 7, 2011.
It seems like Radio Shack isn't the only store that is offering discounts on iPhones. Best Buy will be offering free iPhone 3GS on contract for one day only, that is on Friday, December 10, 2010. BGR reports that this offer is valid to both new lines, additional lines, and also qualified upgrades.
Yes you read that right! As the title suggests, you can now enable HD video recording on your jailbroken iPhone 3GS, running iOS 4.x. ARM Cortex processor on iPhone 3GS is apparently capable of handling 720p video encoding, it is just that Apple has imposed some limitation in the software which Mike has successfully managed to bypass to allow video recording at 1080×800 @ 30fps at up to 20Mbps. The default settings for video recording on iPhone 3GS are: 640×480 @ 3Mbps.
Just a little heads up to inform you all that the iPhone Phonebook SIM card hacktivation trick has been completely blocked by Apple. The iPhone developer and hacker Sherif Hashim who first found this trick back in July has confirmed this on his Twitter account.
Ok guys.. Mac version of the guide is now up! (Windows version can be found here) The requirements though as mentioned earlier remains the same. You will need a iPhone 3GS (with new bootrom) on iOS 4, which has SHSH blobs saved for iPhone 3.1.2. Some other important notes about the jailbreak are as follows.
iH8sn0w – the developer behind popular iPhone jailbreak tools such as sn0wbreeze for iPhone 3.1.3 / 4.0, f0recast and BlackBreeze has just written a detailed tutorial on how to jailbreak iPhone 3GS (with new bootrom) on iOS 4. But as I mentioned earlier, there is a little catch to it. 1) it is a tethered jailbreak (whenever you turn off your phone, you will need to re-connect it to a computer to be able to turn it back on) and 2) it will only work for those devices which have their SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) files for 3.1.2 (NOT 3.1.3) saved on Cydia.
Well its here finally! I got my iPhone 4 shipped here the other day and needless to say, the experience so far has been nothing short of spectacular. It’s a factory unlocked version which I got from UK. What this means is that I can use it with any carrier I like, unlike the US version which is tied to AT&T contract.
Yes! I have got iMovie, which is an iPhone 4 exclusive app running almost perfectly on my iPhone 3GS. I did this video just to show that iPhone 3GS is fast, and capable enough to run iMovie. It is just that Apple wants us all to purchase the new iPhone 4 by saying that iPhone 3GS’ hardware is not good enough for this stuff.
