The fact that all iOS apps need to be approved by Apple in order to make their way into the App Store is both a blessing and a curse for the platform, but nobody can deny that it, most of the time at least, guarantees at least some sort of minimum design quality. It also means that developers often need to jump through hoops in order to get their hard work in front of those that they hope will download it.
Earlier on today, Apple confirmed the news that the blogosphere had long since suspected - that the special iPhone 6 / iWatch event would indeed be held in 13 days' time on September 9th. Wasting little time, preparations for the keynote are already well under way, and although the Cupertino company is doing its level best to keep everything under wraps, those in the know have already begun trying to piece together what's in store.
Prompted into action by Google's release of the Chromecast dongle last year, Apple has been on something of a mission to bring more content to its famed set-top. Sure, we haven't seen any new hardware for a good couple of years now as far as Apple TV is concerned, but for those in ownership of the current-gen models, there are now dozens of channels and services to choose from. For sports fans, the introduction of NFL Now is likely to go down well, and if you don't happen to own the Cupertino company's little black box, you'll be pleased to learn that Amazon Fire TV and Yahoo Screen should also reap the benefits of NFL Now over the next few weeks.
A few days back, we told you reports (read: leaked information) of a claim that Apple’s new iPhone 6 will ship with a reversible Lightning cable, in that the cable will be pluggable into a USB port either way up. At that time, it was uncertain whether the cables will actually come with the upcoming iPhone or a later iteration. Today, a number of images for the new Lightning cable retail boxes have been leaked that show that the new Lightning cable might be closer than it earlier seemed.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has joined with the current Ice Bucket Challenge drive and had a bucket of freezing cold water dumped over his head in order to raise awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Apple's purchase of Beats Electronics a couple of months ago for $3 billion took everybody by surprise, especially given that the Cupertino company tends to avoid such extravagant buyouts of well-known companies. With the deal having just been given the rubber stamp of approval, the Beats product line-up already has its own little segment over on Apple's official site, but aside from a couple of new pairs of headphones, we've yet to really see the fruits of this fledgling collaboration. This could all change once Apple's current flurry of imminent product releases is done and dusted, though, and one designer has imagined what a pair of Apple-Beats headphones, or 'iBeats', might look like.
If you ever wanted to make yourself feel inferior, then having a good think about what kinds of things you'd be able to buy if you were worth millions or even billions of dollars is a good way to do it. While we should probably just be happy for what we've got - new smartphones, tablets, games etc aren't things everyone has access to - there's no doubting that some people live in a completely different world to the rest of us.
As Apple continues to roll out its iOS 8 betas, the latest to hit development devices is beta 5 and it's been around for almost a week now. In that time those using the beta on their iPhones and iPads have been discovering new features as well as changes to old ones, and one of those new features has cropped up very recently indeed.
It became something of a myth that turned out to be true, but there really was a guy called Sam Sung that worked for Apple as recently as late-2013. Even while both Apple and Samsung were going at it tooth and nail over patents and general hatred of each other, there was a cheery guy working as a specialist in Apple’s Pacific Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was almost too good to be true.
In what can only be described as a shock, Apple and Samsung have both announced that they will drop all litigation against each other outside the United States, thought the pair will continue to duke it out in Apple's homeland.
