Yes! I have got iMovie, which is an iPhone 4 exclusive app running almost perfectly on my iPhone 3GS. I did this video just to show that iPhone 3GS is fast, and capable enough to run iMovie. It is just that Apple wants us all to purchase the new iPhone 4 by saying that iPhone 3GS’ hardware is not good enough for this stuff.
Despite all the problems, the new iPhone 4 has broken all the sales record for Apple. After selling 1.5 Million iPhone 4’s right on the first day of the release, this morning, Apple confirmed via press release that they have managed to sell over 1.7 Million iPhone 4’s in just three days of its launch. On this occasion, Apple CEO Steve Jobs called it the most successful Apple product ever.
By now, most of you might have heard rumors about the iOS 4.0.1 firmware update which Apple is preparing to release tomorrow in order to fix the ongoing reception issue on iPhone 4. It looks like the “userland” jailbreak vulnerability which was used by Spirit jailbreak tool was not all that properly patched by Apple, and hence @planetbeing (of Android port for iPhone fame) and @chpwn has managed to get root access on the device using code of @comex’s userland jailbreak method. @Planetbeing posted about this news on his Twitter account.

This is getting ridiculous. I cant believe we are seeing this with Apple’s flagship product. If antenna or yellow spot screen discoloration issues were not enough, there are now reports of unhappy customers who have got new iPhone 4’s with flipped buttons for volume rocker. And moreover, if you press the “-“ button, it will result in increasing of the volume while pressing “+” will result in volume getting quieter.
Now that iPhone 4 has been launched in US, and in some European countries, with lots more to follow in July and August. What everyone is obviously waiting for is to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 4. Since iPhone 4 comes unlocked in almost all countries except for United States, what everyone really wants is a jailbreak, which requires a new exploit as Apple has already patched all the holes in the most recent firmware release, including the one used by Spirit.
Let me clear this up straight. No, the phone you see in the screenshot is not a jailbroken iPhone 4, but rather a jailbroken iPhone 3GS, running iOS 4. The iMovie app you see is basically a “broken” port which was being tried to run on non-iPhone 4 devices but had issues in the end.
If you have an iPhone 3G and you have this feeling that upgrading to iOS 4 has slowed down your device and that you want to go back to iPhone 3.1.3 / 3.1.2. Or if you are one of those iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) or iPod touch 3G / 2G (MC model) user who has upgraded to iOS 4 only to find out that you cant jailbreak it can follow the instructions posted below to downgrade iOS 4.0 to iOS (formerly iPhone 3.1.3 or 3.1.2).
