According to reports, while the next-generation iPhone is still slated for an October release, Apple are still deciding on design specifics and are yet to finalize anything. So, the giant-screened aluminum monstrosity that is the wet dream of most iPhone concept artists is not a guarantee. As iMore notes, Apple unsurprisingly - they are a highly design-oriented company after all - extensively prototypes all future devices that they plan on releasing.
Music playback is the foundation of the iPhone as we know it, but unfortunately, the native Music app is a teeny bit too safe, meaning while it functions to nigh-on perfection, it doesn't have the cutting-edge looks and visual features of the increasing number of alternatives out there. In short, it does enough to stop us complaining, but doesn't quite offer enough to prevent us from window shopping.
A combination of great camera hardware and the rise of Instagram has given developers behind image and photo-centric apps something to shout about, but having said that, the app still has to deliver the goods and offer a substantial array of features to have any lasting effect on consumers.
In what can only be described as a highly comical turn of events, Apple's much lauded Siri has offered Nokia something of a shot in the arm by decreeing its latest Windows Phone 7 smartphone to be the best available.
Well well well, if the rumors of an Apple television were rampant before, then this latest development certainly isn't going to slow them down. In fact, depending on which side of the fence you sit on, this particular rumor could go so far as to confirm the existence of the fabled Apple Television.
Whenever Apple releases a new version of their mobile operating system, the jailbreak loving public inevitably greet it with a mix of jubilation and hesitation. Investigating the firmware to see what features and upgrades Apple have added is obviously part of the fun, but knowing that they can't immediately upgrade to it through fear of not being able to jailbreak their device for an indeterminate period of time is the downside of such a situation.
The iPhone Dev Team has released the updated version of their Redsn0w tool which was teased a while back on Twitter by MuscleNerd. The update as you’d expect is a very significant one, and brings with it the support for downgrading the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the new 3rd-gen iPad to an earlier version of iOS 5 from iOS 5.1.1.
When it comes to connecting to the world wide web, regardless of whether it is through a desktop computer or a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet, faster is always better. For those iPhone owners who are jealous of the 4G data speeds which Apple's latest iPad brings, then the period of worrying may be over as a new external sleeve is being made available that offers free of charge 4G internet after an initial one-off fee.
You could be forgiven for thinking that the Apple TV set-top box isn't a very popular gadget amongst consumers, after all, it doesn't really receive a great deal of attention thanks to being overshadowed by the insane popularity of the iPhone and iPad. With Tim Cook calling the little black puck a "hobby", it's evident that they aren't placing as much emphasis on it as they are on other products, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they have shipped well over 3 million units.
Once upon a time, an alarm clock was a simple, sharp sound played in a loop at a given time in order to wake one up. In the days of Android and iOS, however, the process of rising from sleep is something many developers are trying to nail down to a fine art, and as such, there are bunch of apps purporting to help you feel fresher, more alert, and less cranky when morning comes.
