Folks over at The Joy of Tech is known for creating all kinds of humorous comic strips based on the current tech topics that are on everyone's mind. We're big fans of the series, and everyone loves a good comic strip, right?
Facebook. Love it or hate it, it's not going anywhere any time soon. In fact, Zuckerberg and his merry band of chronies are actively trying to update the social network's web page, making photos and videos more prominent. It's all about trying to offer a rich, multimedia experience to its users, which is probably why Facebook bought Instagram for all that money!
Users of Windows 8 have been sitting on the edge of their seats in the last week or so when Adobe eventually announced the changes that they are making to their creative software packages. They may still be waiting for the Adobe to introduce a redesigned version of Photoshop that takes full advantage of Microsoft's new Modern interface and navigation methodologies, but it seems that they can at least be temporarily appeased with the release of the Photoshop Express app on the Windows Store.
It has almost become a trend now that every great flick is accompanied with its very own game on iOS and Android, Iron Man 3 is a great example. And not breaking away from the already set trend, the official Fast & Furious 6 game has landed on the iOS App Store and we have all the details after the break.
When Siri launched way back when, we all got super excited about the possibilities of talking to our phones and having them go off and find the information we need. Then we got our hands on it and realized that perhaps it wasn't all we had hoped.
The bigger problem with Android has always been its fragmentation, which often results in certain devices being left out when it comes to being eligible for an Android version update. Unfortunately, this happens quite often with devices that are barely a year old, and quite capable (hardware-wise) to run the new software. Therefore, it’s really encouraging to see an old device getting an official update to a newer version of Android. If you own an HTC One X, you may have reason to rejoice, because renowned developer LlabTooFeR claims that HTC is planning to update its last year’s flagship, HTC One X, to Android 4.2.2, and not only that, but also supply the handset with the brand spanking new Sense 5 UI skin! Details past the break.
One of the widespread, long-standing features our mobile devices seem not to have latched onto yet is multi-user support. Whereas an overwhelming number of software interfaces allow for more than one person to log in, store their own data, tweak their settings and preferences and whatnot, the vast majority of smartphones and tablets haven't followed the script. As well as the Windows-based Surface slate, which naturally brought this feature as standard, Android Jelly Bean 4.2 also presented consumers with multi-user support, but if you were frustrated at the fact that Google has deemed it suitable only to the tablet for the time being, you'll be pleased to learn that the MoDaCo Toolkit will help your smartphone achieve this same functionality.
Instagram just keeps on growing, especially since the buyout by Facebook. It seems everyone us using Instagram to post pictures of their kids, their cats and most importantly, their meals. We're not sure phenomenon really does Instagram justice at this point, but there's one string that is missing from their potent bow. One that just doesn't seem forthcoming.
Much has been made of Apple's intentions to bring a flatter user interface to iOS with the forthcoming seventh version, but opinion remains divided on whether skeuomorphism is actually all that bad after all. The two-sidedness of the debate created factions within Apple itself, with ex-iOS SVP Scott Forstall seemingly all for the replication of realistic materials while others, like lead hardware designer Jony Ive, were less enthused by the look. Taking into consideration the polarizing effect, concept maker Ran Avni has taken an interesting approach by suggesting a system which would effectually allow users to flit between flat graphics and the rather familiar look of iOS hitherto. Check it out after the break!
Many Mac users operate under the assumption that they are impervious to viruses and malware, but as we are finding more and more these days, that's not strictly true. A new piece of malware has recently been found that appears to take screenshots of a user's desktop which are then saved to a folder in the user's Home directory.
