While the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max aren’t yet available and the iPhone XR is around a month away, we are still learning little bits of information about the new iPhones over a week after they were announced.
The latest tidbit comes thanks to MyDrivers who noticed that documents from TENAA, China’s version of the FCC, reveal that the iPhone XS actually has a smaller battery capacity than that of the iPhone X.
The new iPhone XS was already known to offer an hour less talk time than the iPhone X but with longer video playback time.
The reason for the shorter talk time appears to be the fact that the new iPhone XS has a battery capacity of 2,658 mAh capacity compared to 2,716 mAh of the X. That only equates to a 2% difference, but any reduction at all is still interesting.
The larger iPhone XS Max has the largest battery that has ever found its way into an iPhone thanks to its 3,174 mAh capacity, while the middle-of-the-road iPhone XR has a 2,942 mAh battery. We already know that the iPhone XR will have the longest battery life according to Apple’s claims, with anything up to 25 hours of talk time, 65 hours of audio playback, and 16 hours of video.
Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will go on sale this coming Friday, with the less costly iPhone XR not set to be ready for sale until October. It’s not clear why that is the case – perhaps Apple knows people will be swayed by those great color options and wanted to push buyers to the more expensive products in the lineup instead. Maybe we’re just cynical!
