Download: macOS 10.14.3 Supplemental Update Released To Patch Critical FaceTime Bug

Apple has a supplemental macOS 10.14.3 update available right now for all owners of compatible Mac hardware. The Cupertino-based company hasn’t been able to hide from the recent furor around its Group FaceTime bug and this supplemental update is designed to patch that flaw on all Mac hardware.

If you own one of Apple’s iMacs or MacBooks, then macOS 10.14.3 may seem like a familiar software release to you. That’s because the company actually pushed out the original version of macOS 10.14.3 just seven days ago with a slew of under-the-hood fixes and improvements designed to bring additional stability and performance.

However, this update is designed to bring a fix for something slightly more sinister by patching the Group FaceTime bug that has been causing the company a lot of public embarrassment over the last few days.

In case you have been living under a rock which keeps you away from tech-based news, a teenage boy managed to find a bug in Apple’s Grup FaceTime functionality which allowed a FaceTime call to be forced and essentially meant that the recipient’s device provided access to video and audio streaming without their consent.

Just a number of days ago, Apple took the rather direct move of disabling the Group FaceTime functionality on the server-side to ensure that this bug couldn’t be exploited but it was evident at that time that a more lasting approach would be needed in the form of a slew of software updates for affected devices.

This macOS 10.14.2 supplemental update is that update for Mac hardware. If you have one of Apple’s iOS devices – iPhone or iPad – then you can also expect a secondary update to be released to patch the exact same bug within the iOS ecosystem.

If you are a Mac computer own, then you can grab this extremely important update right now directly from the Software Update mechanism within your Mac. Even if you aren’t a FaceTime user, it is recommended that you download and install the update with immediate effect to ensure that you aren’t affected by the vulnerability and that anyone with nefarious intent doesn’t gain unexpected or unintended access to your audio or video from the Mac itself.
