Google Glass Consumer Launch Pushed Back, Developers Losing Interest In The Project

Paul Morris·November 15, 2014
The unveiling of Google Glass had split public opinion right down the middle when it was first introduced as a research project back just over two years ago. The intelligent, but relatively futuristic eyewear, which looks as though it has been ripped directly off the set of a Hollywood spy thriller, has been one of the primary focal points of Google's Project X team for quite some time, but could that dedication to an actual consumer launch be waning? According to a new Reuters report, a number of developers and early Glass adopters are beginning to lose that initial excitement and interest in the product.

Ben Reid·November 15, 2014
Android's latest mobile software, dubbed Lollipop, is, if you'll excuse the terrible pun, the word on everybody's lips right now, but despite the numerous features having been refined and deemed ready for prime time, the typically cumbersome roll-out has since ensued. If you're an Android user, it's very likely that you'll be waiting a while before you can indulge in this new version 5.0, but if you happen to be in ownership of a Nexus, then you won't be left hanging for quite as long. Indeed, along with the earlier release of factory images for a spate of Nexus smartphones and tablets, the system image for the Nexus 4 is now in the wild, and if you're still in possession of this antiquated handset, then you can now… wait for it… get flashing!

You Can Now Buy Nexus 9, Nexus Player From Google Play Store

Ben Reid·November 4, 2014
As we continue to be distracted by the Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 at the top end of the smartphone market, it's worth remembering that Google's been busy rolling out some new hardware of its own. Along with the Moto-manufactured Nexus 6 smartphone, the Big G also took the wraps off the HTC-made Nexus 9 tablet and its very own Apple TV-incarnate in the Nexus Player last month. Now, both slate and set-top are available to purchase right from the Play Store, although there are one or two limitations to this arrangement.

Google Working On ‘Copresence’, A Cross-Platform Apple’s AirDrop-like Feature

Ben Reid·November 1, 2014
Apple likes to build things that just work, requiring as little intervention as possible on the part of the user, and AirDrop, the company's local file-transfer service, typifies this notion. Google, Apple's main rival in the mobile industry, is apparently working on a similar feature of its own, with a number of blogs having been tipped off that a service named "Copresence" is currently in the works.
