Grand LS: The Best Lock Screen Theme For iOS 7 [VIDEO]

Ben Reid·February 15, 2014
We're big fans of simplicity and minimalism here at Redmond Pie, and having been more impressed by last month's release of the elegant 0bscure 7 WinterBoard theme, we've now been treated to an equally slick lock screen theme by the same developer. GRAND LS is a clutter-free, uncomplicated lock screen alternative featuring a large, artsy digital clock as its show piece, and if you've been looking to tinker with the appearance of your iOS device's front page, then look no further than the GRAND LS.

If you too cannot wait to get your hands on this title, which releases on March 11th in North America, then we're giving away some invite codes of Titanfall beta for Xbox One. So, if you're in ownership of Microsoft's latest and greatest console, and would like to test the waters of Titanfall before its release, then check out the details after the break!

How To Cache Offline Maps In Google Maps For iPhone And iPad

Ben Reid·February 15, 2014
Apple may have gotten its act together in improving the general performance of its home-baked Maps app, but well over a year on from the disastrous launch of Cupertino's first navigation app for iOS, many users still swear by the third-party Google offering that used to take pride of place as a native feature. Despite the obvious limitation of being developed as an App Store entity, Google Maps remains the real deal, and if you were wondering how to go about saving map segments and routes for offline use, here's a little step-by-step guide on how you can achieve your goals.

Top Must-Have iPhone 5s Touch ID Tweaks You Should Try Right Now!

Ben Reid·February 14, 2014
Apple's latest and greatest smartphone, the iPhone 5s, has brought with it a host of new and exciting features. The A7 processor is backed up by 64-bit architecture, and with a dual-LED True Tone flash to accompany the improved rear-facing camera, the handset has been the subject of much acclaim. But aside from the gold model, which prompted an incredible response, the main talking point has been that mysterious Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Beefing up security, it has slotted into the iPhone repertoire rather nicely, but with the recent work of Evad3rs, what could the jailbreak community do with this new technology? Here, we survey some of the best Touch ID-related tweaks for the iPhone 5s.

Mediation Between Apple And Samsung Fails, Court Case To Follow Soon

Ben Reid·February 14, 2014
The Apple vs. Samsung patent debacle has been a recurring theme of the mobile industry during the past few years, with each company putting forth their cases pertaining to the supposed patent infringement of the other. Prior to each hearing, the executives high up in both Samsung and Apple meet up for clear-the-air talks in an attempt to find some kind of resolution. But this mandatory meeting seldom works where these two titans are concerned, and with another high profile court case looming, a meeting between Apple chief Tim Cook and JK Shin - just one of the Korean company's three CEOs, has proved a fruitless exercise.

How To Add A Dictionary And Encyclopedia To iOS 7 Control Center

Ben Reid·February 14, 2014
Apple's range of native iOS apps is pretty expansive these day, but is still arguably missing one key component - a dictionary. Sure, there's a dictionary there in spirit, ensuring that you don't make any spelling mistakes when typing up a message, but if you want to actually look up words and discover your definitions, you have to saunter on down to the App Store and find a suitable app. Luckily, thanks to a new tweak by the name of Define for iOS 7, you can enjoy an integrated dictionary, thesaurus and encyclopedia-like (read: Wikipedia) experience right from the Control Center.

PlayStation Plus Glitch Lets PS4 Users Extend The 14-Day Trial Indefinitely Without Paying A Dime

Ben Reid·February 13, 2014
It's always nice to get something for free in life, and while Xbox 360 users had to pony up a subscription free for the privilege of using Xbox LIVE, those on the PS3 enjoyed the PlayStation Network's online multiplayer infrastructure free of charge. But while Sony has since switched things up with the PlayStation 4's paid, PS Plus service, one savvy user has found a little loophole that effectively lets you use it for free, extending the 14-day PS Plus trial by a seemingly infinite length of time.

Samsung’s Elusive Wraparound Display Smartphone Reportedly Releasing Later This Year

Ben Reid·February 13, 2014
As we keenly await the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5 later on this month, new reports out of the company's native Korea have implied that as well as the imminent flagship, Samsung plans on releasing a handset with a wraparound display later on this year. Although the TouchWiz maker likes to keep the flow of handsets constant throughout every year, only two - the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note - tend to stand out among the also-rans. However, the prospect of a first Samsung smartphone packing this unorthodox display would certainly grab the headlines, and if it is in line for a launch at some point in 2014, would likely upstage both of the current flagship ranges.
