Apple’s Budget MacBook Rumored For 2026 Launch

Rumors around a potential launch of a new budget Apple MacBook are again swirling, with a new report suggesting that we should keep our eyes peeled in the first half of 2026.

According to a new Bloomberg report, the new machine will be a budget marvel, costing “well under $1,000” in an attempt to better compete with the cheaper Windows PCs and Google-powered Chromebooks.

The new device — designed for students, businesses and casual users — will target people who primarily browse the web, work on documents or conduct light media editing, according to people familiar with the matter. Apple is also targeting would-be iPad buyers who might prefer a traditional laptop experience instead.

Apple’s current budget option is the 13-inch MacBook Air which sells for $999. However, that machine is often discounted slightly which makes it more affordable for those on the hunt for a cheaper laptop.

For potential Mac buyers who aren’t wedded to the idea of a Laptop, Apple’s Mac mini starts at $599. But buyers need their new Mac to be portable, the Mac mini isn’t going to help with that.

We’ve seen rumors of a budget MacBook on and off for years now, so it will be interesting to see whether 2026 is finally the year that those rumors come to fruition.
