Apple is set to release two iPhone 12 and two iPhone 12 Pro handsets in October and all four of them are expected to support 5G for the first time in an iPhone. But what if you want the latest iPhone without the costly 5G components? Well, you wait until next year. At least, that’s according to Wedbush Securities analysts.
In a conversation with Business Insider, Wedbush’s Daniel Ives claimed that Apple will launch a new 4G version of the iPhone 12 around February 2021, with a price of around $800.
That would be the cheapest iPhone 12 available with Ives also noting that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will likely sell at the same price point as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. There will be no increase in price thanks to 5G.
Ives believes that Apple will want to offer as many different price points as possible with the world’s economy struggling and people feeling the pinch.
“Price points will be aggressive as Apple goes after their broader customer base,” Ives commented. “Especially in a recession, in a COVID-19 backdrop, they need to make sure they’re hitting all price categories.”
Apple would normally announce new iPhones in September, but the company confirmed during an earnings call that its 2020 lineup will arrive a few weeks later than normal. It’s thought prototyping and production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic are to blame.
