Apple’s first foldable iPhone is back in the spotlight, and a new leak points to one major feature: a liquid metal hinge.
According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple’s foldable iPhone, sometimes referred to as the “iPhone Ultra,” is moving ahead quickly in development. The leak also claims prototype units have already been sent to carriers for testing, which could be a sign that the device is getting closer to launch.

The biggest detail is the hinge. Apple is reportedly using liquid metal, a strong and durable alloy that offers better wear resistance than traditional metals. That matters because the hinge is one of the most important parts of any foldable phone, constantly opening and closing over its lifetime.
Apple has used liquid metal before, mostly for small components like the iPhone SIM ejector tool, but using it in a foldable hinge would be a much bigger step.
There have been earlier reports about Apple struggling with hinge durability and quality testing. However, this latest leak suggests those concerns may have been solved, with the liquid metal hinge now becoming part of the final design.

The foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch inner display, 5.5-inch cover screen, A20 chip, Touch ID, and dual rear cameras. Pricing could start around $2,000.
Nothing is official yet, but if the carrier testing claim is accurate, Apple’s foldable iPhone may be moving from rumor to reality faster than expected.
