You can now download iOS 18.6.1 final IPSW links and OTA update for iPhone . The new update brings with it a very specific addition for Apple Watch owners in the United States.
Apple’s new iOS 18.6.1 comes as part of a similar watchOS software update that brings the blood oxygen sensor functionality back to Apple Watch Series 9 and newer in the United States.
Apple removed the feature from Apple Watches sold from January 2024, but this new update will add it back in. The feature was originally removed following the loss of a patent lawsuit involving the medical technology firm Masimo.
The new iOS 18.6.1 software adds support for the feature to the Health app for those impacted Apple Watches.
Here’s what Apple says about this change:
Users with these models in the U.S. who currently do not have the Blood Oxygen feature will have access to the redesigned Blood Oxygen feature by updating their paired iPhone to iOS 18.6.1 and their Apple Watch to watchOS 11.6.1. Following this update, sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone, and results can be viewed in the Respiratory section of the Health app. This update was enabled by a recent U.S. Customs ruling.
Updating your iPhone using the OTA method couldn’t be easier. Just go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install the new version.
