Apple Reportedly Keen To Buy Formula 1 Streaming Rights After Movie Success

Following the successful premiere of F1: The Movie, Apple is now reportedly keen to also pick up the streaming rights for the real Formula One sport. The movie reportedly raked in more than $300 million globally.

According to The Financial Times, Apple wants to stream the F1 World Championship and is currently in talks to acquire the rights for the United States.

The current F1 streaming deal is with Disney’s ESPN, which means that the two companies will go head-to-head with Apple if a bidding war ensues. It’s that Disney currently pays $85 million per year for the rights to stream F1 in the United States. Formula One also has an in-house streaming option, too.

Apple has long been rumored to have designs on a variety of sports streaming deals since picking up the Major League Soccer contract in 2022. That contract saw Apple spend $2.5 billion for a 10-year contract to stream the league and associated competitions.

Since then, there have been rumors of bids to bring other sports to Apple TV, including various European soccer leagues, the NBA, and the NFL.

So far, Apple has struggled to add to its MLS deal, but its existing relationship with Formula One could stand it in good stead when it comes to signing a potential streaming deal for the motorsport.
