It’s always great news whenever a jailbreak is released or a tool is updated to offer new functionality or improvements. With that said, once a device is jailbroken, it can be equally as exciting for device owners to see developers releasing compatibility updates to extremely popular packages.
To that end, and to raise excitement, the developer of the extremely popular TetherMe package has announced a new version in beta, ready for testing.
This means that those jailbroken with the latest version of Electra, which, of course, comes with Cydia as part of the payload, can add the repo (http://repo.tetherme.net/) as a source and download the latest incarnation of TetherMe with immediate effect on their jailbroken iOS 11 devices.
From a functionality perspective, there’s currently no indication that anything has changed or that any additional earth-shattering functionality has been added. Once installed, the tweak will enable the native tethering functionality (Personal Hotspot) of the device, which unfortunately is sometimes restricted by the carrier as part of the plans they provide. They typically give users a limited amount of monthly data to use on the device but restrict the ability to share that data wirelessly with other devices unless the plan subscriber pays an additional amount of money each month. TetherMe also allows a user with it installed to edit his/her APN settings on the device.
As outlined by the developer, the tweak isn’t carrier-specific, and should, therefore, work with all compatible devices regardless of the network they are using. The caveat is that a user should be aware that the network could find out that tethering has been enabled via a third-party tweak and apply additional charges to the account.
If you are happy to run with those risks and definitely require a package like TetherMe on your device, then you can add the aforementioned repository to Cydia and get your hands on it right now. Keep in mind that if you are using a jailbroken iPhone X then you could experience some slight niggles with the blue bar that’s shown when devices are connected.
