Samsung Galaxy S6 Battery Size Detailed, Will Be Non-Removable

Reports are coming in that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will likely be powered by a 2,600mAh battery, and is also rumored to feature a non-removable and non-user replaceable unit. For further details, head on over the jump.

Samsung’s Project Zero has been a long time coming since the release of the Galaxy S5, where the company was scrutinized for passing on sub-par designs to the consumers. Project Zero is Samsung’s attempt at a new and redefined smartphone – the Galaxy S6 – with efforts involved in designing a gadget unlike any before it. One of the quickest moves was to throw in a unibody design much like the HTC One series and the iPhone 5 and 6, if recent leaks are to be believed.

Naturally, this would mean Samsung would be ditching its much popular feature of letting users replace batteries on the go. The Galaxy A5 has already been released with a non-user replaceable battery as well, and it looks like the Galaxy S6 will be featuring an enclosed unit at 2,600mAh, which is a good 200mAh less than what is bundled with the Galaxy S5. This is interesting indeed, given that the S5 features a 5.1-inch display, where the S6 is believed to bring in a 5.5-inch panel, and you would think that the latter should carry a larger battery given its size. On the design front, Samsung could be looking at reduced bezels, even if it sticks to a 5.1-inch display akin to the the S5.

Other possible explanations for a slightly smaller battery could be traced back to Samsung’s choice of the brand new Exynos 7420 chip, which unlike the competition, is built on the 14nm architecture, thus significantly reducing the power draw by roughly 30%. So with the release of the S6 users could see a significantly increased battery life compared to the S5. Rumors have it that the S6 will have wireless charging tech built right in, but then again these are unconfirmed reports.

All that said, Project Zero will finally come to life on the 1st of March next month at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, and we’ll bring you all the news, updates and coverage from the event as it happens, so stay tuned.
