Report: iPad Pro 2 Announcement Imminent

Rumors of when the 10.5-inch iPad will become available have been rife over the past few weeks, and today sees two new potential time frames of when Apple will announce the additional size option.

Citing supply chain sources Taiwanese website DigiTimes claims that the iPad will be announced during an event set to take place in early April, while MacRumors also cites sources when reporting that an announcement is even more imminent. The publication believes an iPad event will take place between Monday, March 20 and Friday, March 24.

DigiTimes in particular had not expected the new iPad to be ready to ship until June, although the publication now reports that Apple has “moved ahead the production” which allows for a speedier release schedule. If this is indeed the case, then either of the two new potential launch windows could be possible.

What makes the report by DigiTimes so interesting is the claims that the event will take place at Apple’s new Apple Park headquarters.

The on-site auditorium in which these kinds of events will take place, the Steve Jobs Theater, is not expected to be ready to accept people until “later this year,” although Apple’s somewhat vague wording could potentially leave the door open for a surprise or two in the scheduling.

It is not yet clear how all of the 10.5-inch iPad announcement rumors relate to likely updates to existing iPad lines. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is due for a refresh, and with stocks seemingly dwindling, the assumption has been that a new device would debut alongside any other iPads.

This may still be the case, but with all eyes on what Apple reportedly has planned for all-new iPad models it will be interesting to see where the original, and largest iPad Pro goes from here.
