Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Updated: Direct Instagram Story Sharing, Amazon Music Support, New Styles, More

If you own a pair of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses you have a new feature to play with after a software update added the ability to upload photos directly to Instagram, among other things.

The new features include the option to have the glasses play music from Amazon Music by saying “Hey Meta, play Amazon Music”.

Uploading photos to Instagram works in much the same way with “Hey Meta, share my last photo to Instagram” being enough to get the ball rolling. Controlling audio can be done using either the side-mounted touch controls or the user’s voice.

Calm support is also included, allowing people to practice mindfulness while on the go. Users will also get a three-month trial if they aren’t already a Calm member, too.

This new update comes a month after Meta rolled out its multimodal AI for the Ray-Ban glasses which allow owners to use the wearable in a similar way to the much-maligned Rabbit R1 and Humane AI Pin devices.

While a far cry from the Google Glass smart glasses that famously gave everyone the creeps before being canceled, the Meta glasses are much more readily accepted and also have the added benefit of being actual sunglasses in iconic Ray-Ban designs.

Other companies are thought to be working on similar glasses, including Apple. The Apple smart glasses are likely years away though with the company currently focusing on the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset instead.
