Even though the newly released Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 officially supports iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.0 only, but MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that iOS 4.2 Beta can also be jailbroken (on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only) using this release of Redsn0w but don’t expect everything to work flawlessly.
The iPhone Dev-Team has just released a new version of Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 which can jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G.
As amazing, revolutionary and magical the iPad may be, the fact remains that it lacks quite clearly in the video playback department. It only supports H.264, .mp4 and .mov video formats. Pretty limited, if you ask me. The tedious process of having to convert video files in iTunes before moving it to the iPad is, well, rather tedious.
Napster - the predecessor to P2P file sharing programs like Limewire - is now available for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch). This is not the Napster of the ‘olden days (circa 2000) when you could look up a song and download it straight to your 10GB hard drive. The file sharing service went bankrupt in 2002, bought by Best Buy in ‘08 and went legal last year.
Included among the new features of the HTC Desire Z / Desire HD is the updated Sense UI. Besides the little tweaks in the interface, the updated Sense also brings a super-fast 5 second boot time. The tech is called “HTC Fast Boot” and is exclusive to the newly announced phones.
A new tweak which goes by the name of “Covert” is now available on Cydia which brings private browsing to Mobile Safari browser on iPhone and iPod touch. When active, this feature will mask your browsing trail from anyone who might later use your phone to check out browser’s history, cookies and other data.
I find this a little hard to believe but Michael Arrington (of TechCrunch fame) says that the world’s biggest social network - Facebook - is now secretly building up a proprietary phone whose features will revolve entirely around the network. Hard to believe, but one must keep in mind that Arrington was the one who broke the news of a Google Phone (now known as the Nexus One).
The hackers from Chronic Dev-Team have posted a rather miniscule update on their official blog on the GreenPois0n tool. GreenPois0n is the tool that was initially going to jailbreak iOS 3.1.3 (iPhone) and iOS 3.2 (iPad) and is now expected to jailbreak iOS 4.1 soon.
“iPA God” is a new application which can be used to download paid apps from the App Store for free, directly onto your iOS device! According to the developer, you won’t have to jailbreak your iOS device to use iPA God. It works on an exploit found in iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.2 which allows you to create particular files on the filesystem. The developer took the opportunity and made an application out of it to make the entire process easier.
PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 3G running final version of iOS 4.1 has been released. Unlike iOS 4.2 bundle, this one has fully working Cydia and it also supports hacktivation.
