New Images Again Show The iPhone 13’s Smaller Notch Compared With iPhone 12

New images appear to show just how much smaller the iPhone 13’s notch will be when compared with the notch on the current iPhone 12 lineup.

The images, shared to Twitter by DuanRui and sourced from Weibo, show a display “film sample” that will reportedly be used for iPhone 13 manufacturing.

Placed over an existing iPhone 12, the images show the difference in size of the notches that will ship later this year.

If all goes according to plan we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max during an event in September. We don’t expect too many changes this time around, but a smaller notch is looking increasingly likely. Previous leaks have suggested that a size reduction of around 30% should be expected.

To achieve the size reduction Apple appears to be rejigging the layout of the components used to make Face ID function.

One thing we don’t yet know is what Apple intends to do with the extra screen space made available thanks to the use of a smaller notch. The larger status bar could enable new notification icons, for example.

Beyond the notch, the iPhone 13 lineup is expected to be almost identical, physically, as the iPhone 12 that came before it.
