Microsoft Now Offering A $200 Trade-In For Your iPad Against A New Surface RT / Pro

Surface

The idea, as far as Microsoft is concerned, is that people will trade in their 'gently used' iPads and then walk out with a brand new Surface RT or Surface Pro instead. And we're sure some people will take them up on it, especially if they need all the bells and whistles that Windows 8 ships with, or indeed must have access to some of the apps that just aren't available on iOS. We think they'd be mad, but that's just us.

The real question as far as we're concerned is what Microsoft will do with the iPads that end up getting traded in. Will Bill Gates finally let his kids use them as their introduction to Apple products, or will Steve Ballmer use them to play an expensive game of Jenga? Whatever the use, we can't see Microsoft having too many on its hands, even if it is willing to offer $200 and up for them.

This isn't the first time that Microsoft has squared up to Apple on the tablet front. The Redmond firm has been running anti-iPad ads dubbed iPad vs Windows 8 Tablet for quite some time now, comparing Apple's wares to its own and, predictably, deciding that the iPad comes up short. Imagine our surprise.

With the Surface 2 being unveiled at the September 23rd event in New York City, and Microsoft seemingly rudderless these days, perhaps this is is deemed as the best way for Microsoft's engineers to research what to turn its ailing tablet into.

Is that iPad just not working out for you? Is the lack of Microsoft Office just eating you up inside, leaving you unable to continue making those spreadsheets that nobody really reads? If the answer is ‘yes,’ then fret not, for Microsoft now has you covered.

From right now and running up until October 13th, Microsoft will take your old iPad 2, 3 or 4 off your hands and give you a minimum of $200-worth of Microsoft Store credit. What will you do with that credit? Well, upgrade your tablet, of course.
