iPhone 8 ‘X’ Edition Concept Takes Design Cues From iPhone 4 [Video]

Were you a big fan of the design language which Apple shipped with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s? Sure, devices have come a long way in terms of features and functionality since those days, but it’s difficult to deny the fact that the metal frame sandwiched between slices of glass was one of iPhone’s most beautiful forms yet.

Well, if you were in love with that design, how about a concept iPhone 8 – ‘X’ Edition which takes that beautiful design language and builds it into a fluid, powerful modern device?

We’re getting to that time of the year where we still have a while to go until we actually hear about iPhone 8 from Apple, but we’re kept company by the multitude of leaks coming out of the woodwork, as well as analysts and well-placed individuals making device specific predictions, such as the latest suggestion of a two-step biometric recognition system for the 2017 iPhone dubbed “iPhone X”.

This concept, like most of the good ones, takes those predictions to produce a device which could actually have some basis in reality, but with the addition of a few exceptional parts which we know wouldn’t make it into Apple’s next device.

What we have with this 10th Anniversary iPhone 8 concept is a device which is just 6.9mm thin, built with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display. Apple is expected to make the move from LCD to OLED with iPhone 8 so it would be ridiculous to not include that in any render or concept. There’s a liquid metal frame sandwiched between two perfectly engineered Gorilla Glass slabs for supreme rigidity and strength. The edge-to-edge display and glass design also means that this concept features a Touch ID sensor built-into the display, and there’s also a unique and highly exciting second touch-sensitive display on the lower bezel.

From a power perspective, the device is imagined running Apple’s latest A11 chipset with no mention of the amount of onboard RAM. However, what we do have is a significantly improved onboard camera system with an ability to take augmented reality and parallax photos, as well as the ability to measure distance and volume. Add that to the fact that it is also capable of facial recognition, which fits in nicely with recent predictions about Apple’s focus on advanced Touch ID and facial recognition solutions, and you have what is not only a beautiful phone, but one that is highly capable and very exciting to use.
