iOS 12.2 Downgrade No Longer Possible As Apple Stops Signing iOS 12.1.4

Apple’s iOS 12.2 was only released a few weeks ago, but iOS 12.1.4 is already yesterday’s news with Apple no longer signing it. That means that anyone who wanted to install the older version of iOS can no longer do so.

Apple generally stops signing older versions of iOS after a new update has arrived, and with iOS 12.2 now in the wind and iOS 12.3 already in the midst of a beta testing process it was only a matter of time before iOS 12.1.4 was killed off.

This now means that nobody can downgrade to iOS 12.1.4, should that have been something they had in mind. Downgrading to older versions of iOS is usually something reserved for jailbreakers, another reason Apple doesn’t want older versions available to be installed.

The release of iOS 12.2 brought with it plenty of changes that most people will enjoy, including support for the updated AirPods as well as the recently announced Powerbeats Pro. The inclusion of Apple News+ and new Animoji may also be a good enough reason to update, although iOS 12.3 with the inclusion of the revamped TV app as well as support for Apple TV channels is likely the biggest update for most.

With iOS 12.3 currently being beta tested and iOS 13 set to begin its own testing program come WWDC time this June, we expect iOS 12.3 to ship to the public within the next few weeks.

For now, developers can take the update for a spin while getting their apps ready for launch day, too.
