Elon Musk Claims Tesla’s Robotaxi Debuts August 8

Elon Musk and Tesla, neither of which are known for setting timeframes and sticking to them, claim that the company’s robotaxi will be shown off on August 8. Which year that will be, remains to be seen.

Musk took to the X social network to unveil the plan which came on the same day that Reuters reported that Tesla has abandoned plans to launch a new, affordable EV that was expected to cost around $25,000.

It’s said that Musk told employees that the EV would be canceled with an autonomous vehicle that would eventually remove the need for other vehicles to exist.

Musk has been talking about launching a robotaxi for years but there has so far been little indication that it will actually happen. The robotaxis will supposedly run on the Tesla Network, with Tesla owners able to add their own cars to the shared fleet.

Owners would be able to use their EV to generate income, Musk claimed, but again there’s been little to suggest this is anything more than wishful thinking on the part of Musk and the Tesla fanbase.

Given the fact the $25,000 mass-market EV was often touted by Musk, it isn’t clear why anyone should believe that this new change of course will stick. Reuters reported that Tesla’s share price fell more than 6% following the news that the new EV had been canceled.
