Just lately, developers have been tripping over one another to offer the best discounts on some great apps, and here, we've done our level best to share them with you guys. We've seen some incredible savings over the past few weeks, with some particularly costly apps having gone free for a very limited time, and now, an app usually costing $49.99 has just shaken off its price tag. It's a must-download for any respectable music fan, and if you count yourself as one of those, be sure to catch the important details below!
In terms of pricing, Apple's product line-up is inaccessible to many, and in particular, students. Beset by fees and general student debt, the purchase of a product like the iPad Air or iPad mini with Retina display is largely out of the question, and as such, Apple frequently offers discounts to those studying in university or college. Apparently, those two aforementioned slates are now subject to the Cupertino's special education pricing structure, with prices starting at $469 for the iPad Air and $379 for the Retina iPad mini.
Apple's Touch ID technology may currently be something that is only enjoyed by those carrying an iPhone 5s, but according to the latest report coming out of KGI Research, that should be about to change.
With reports having already indicated that Apple's WWDC 2014 keynote will see the company unveil some new hardware along with the perceived formality of OS X 10.10 and iOS 8, the Cupertino giant has just announced that the initial announcement show-piece will be streamed live to those on Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV. In updating the WWDC site, Apple also alludes to some "exciting announcements," and although we don't know precisely what's in store just yet, we can't wait for Tim Cook and co. to tell all.
Today is, as may of you will be more than aware, Memorial Day, and to mark the occasion, several developers have offered their apps completely free of charge. Given that these are limited-time offers for the most part, you will need to get in quickly if you don't want to miss out, and with seven very highly-regarded titles making our list here today, we're certain you'll be snapping all of them up.
Let's make no bones about it - the iOS app badge icons are fairly ugly. When they start to build up, they leave unsightly blemishes that distract the pleasant aesthetic tweaks that Apple made with iOS 7, and in all honesty, the Cupertino company really ought to have replaced them with something a tad more forward-thinking by now. A new tweak offers a quite sublime alternative to badges, replacing them with a simple, unassuming glow that tells you when a notification has arrived or when an app is running, and it's easily one of our favorite tweaks on iOS 7 so far.
As Apple recently acknowledged, iPhone users switching to Android or any other platform are running into a bug that sees messages continue to be sent using iOS’s proprietary iMessage protocol. As a consequence, messages are noted as “delivered” on iOS, but since only Apple’s own devices can read iMessages, never received. Given that the Cupertino company has already fixed what was possible on the server side of things, and now has promised a remedial iOS update, possibly in the form of iOS 7.1.2, to fix the issue completely, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for a full official fix, but in case you don’t want to potentially miss any important messages between now and then, we’ve put together a little guide detailing how you can restore immediate normality without waiting for Apple to patch it via software update.
Codemasters has many a Formula 1 game under its belt, and as a long time fan of both the company and the sport, I can vouch for the fact that most of them have been pretty darned awesome. But having churned out so many titles boasting cutting-edge graphics, realistic game play and very plausible simulation of the many great tracks across the world, the game maker has now come through with a spot of arcade fare in the image of SEGA All-Star Racing and Mario Kart. The animated experience is all about non-stop, unadulterated fun, and if you're a sucker for this kind of thing, then check the details after the break!
As well as the many great freebies and savings offered by developers for apps and games, Apple's own App of the Week selection means that awesome titles can be snapped up completely free of charge. This week, the deal is perhaps as good as it has ever been, with a total saving of around $20 on this week's AotW, and if you're a big sports fan, you won't want to miss out, so check the details and download links below!
Even though Apple dished out a bunch of useful improvements and enhancements with the big iOS 7 update, there are still certain aspects that could well be improved. In fact, given how there's still no way to quickly compose or reply to a message without stepping away from the current task at hand, we'd go as far as to say that iOS is still significantly bereft in several key areas, and whilst such functionality can be readily achieved via jailbreak, it's always better to have these options at stock level. One wily iOS user has found a makeshift way of quick-replying to and composing messages without having to jump to the Messages app every time, and although it's somewhat limited, we also think its pretty neat.
